World Against Anti-Child Labour Day Celebration 2025
The World Against Anti-Child Labour Day was observed with great enthusiasm and commitment at Huchangipura Jagalur Taluk, Davangere District on 19th June 2025. The event was organized by the Don Bosco Child Labour Mission (DBCLM) as part of its ongoing efforts under the Empowerment of Community for Child Labour Eradication in – Project Jagaluru of BREADS Bangalore. A total of 250 students and 17 staff members participated in the program.
The day began with a vibrant rally and awareness march inaugurated by Mr. P.T. Rudresh, President of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), GHPS, Huchangipura. The rally featuring powerful slogans and display of placards, passed through the main streets of Huchangipura to raise awareness on the issue of child labour. Snacks and juice distributed to all at the end of the rally.
At 11:30 a.m, the formal stage programme and cultural events commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Mrs. Marka Hanumantappa (GP President, Huchangipura) in the presence of several distinguished guests including: Mr. P.T. Rudresh, President (SDMC), Mr. BT. Venkatesh, GP Member, Mr. Veerish, SDMC Member, GHPS, Mr. Heerallappa, Headmaster, GHPS, Mrs. Savithramma Shekar and Mr. Mukandaraj, GP Members, Fr. Regi Jacob, Director, DBCLM, Fr. Raju Philip, Asst. Director, Don Bosco Sujyothi and Student Representatives: Kumari Chandana (8th Std) and Master Sharath D (7th Std) respectively.
The programme began with a prayer song led by Lakshmi, a student of Class 6. This year’s theme for the anti-child Labour Day was "Progress is clear, but there's more to do: Let's speed up efforts!" emphasizing the need for continued action against child labour.
Fr. Regi Jacob, in his opening address explained the rights of children and the importance of education. He urged parents to avoid sending children to work and to take action against child marriage. He reminded the gathering to inform Childline 1098 if any child is school dropout.
Mr. BT. Venkatesh stressed that school dropouts are a primary cause of child labour and that collective effort from parents and stakeholders is necessary to address this issue.
Student speakers Kumari Chandana and Master Sharath D passionately voiced their desire for education and a future free from child labour, calling for community action when children are seen working.
Mr. P.T. Rudresh, President of SDMC, lauded the Don Bosco team for their relentless efforts and suggested regular parent-teacher meetings once in three months.
Mr. Heerallappa, Headmaster of GHPS, pointed out that parental negligence is a significant factor contributing to poor attendance and academic performance. He committed to reporting children in need to the DBCLM team and praised their dedication.
The event featured two cultural performances by the students of GHPS, reinforcing the anti-child labour message through art and expression. Finally, the World against Anti- child labour programme concluded with a solemn oath-taking ceremony where all students and staff pledged to combat child labour and support children's right to education for a better and brighter future.
