YaR Day celebration 2018


DBCLM had its first separate YaR Day celebration on August 31, 2018 unlike the usual practice of combining it with anti child labour day and children’s day celebrations. There were about 250 people including the staff, guests and students from different tuition centres of the centre. Mr Shaji Mathew, Superintendent of Railway Protection Force, Davangere was the chief guest. Other guests included Adv Arun Kumar, Member of State Legal Service Authority, Mr Imran, Asst Sub Inspector, Gandhi Nagar Police Station, Mr Y Ramnaik, Chairperson of CWC Davangere, Sr Kuttiyamma, Superior of Adorers Convent, Fr Cyril Sagayaraj, Director of DBCLM and Member of CWC Davangere.

In his welcome speech director Fr Cyril gave a small briefing on Don Bosco and the mission and vision of DBCLM in Davangere. He gave a bird’s eye view of the life of DBCLM over the past 22 years and invited the general public especially, those in authority to join hands with DBCLM in rehabilitating the children who are in hazardous situations.

Mr Shaji Mathew, the chief guest mentioned in his speech, “of the total population of the country, 48% are children. Children are the future of the nation. It is everybody’s responsibility to provide a peaceful and exploitation-free childhood to children”. He observed that we can see a number of children abandoned by the parents and rag pickers on the street. He regretted that it is because the laws are not properly implemented. He thought it can be overcome only through a community approach. Other guests who spoke on the occasion too stressed on the need of the society getting involved in rehabilitating these young ones at risk.

Children came from the different schools had an opportunity to perform their items on the stage. The programme ended with a sumptuous meal for all.
