Plastic Muktha Campus
This year Don Bosco Child Labour Mission (DBCLM), Davangere celebrated the 150 th
birth anniversary of Mahathma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation in a different way. The
celebration had a grand gathering of the students and staff, a public rally and cleaning
the surroundings of DBCLM. The gathering started at 10:00 am. Fr. Cyril Sagayaraj sdb,
Director of DBCLM was the chief guest. Other guests of honour on the dais included Mr.
Sunil H (Coordinator, Don Bosco Open Shelter, Davangere), Mr. Manjappa B
(Coordinator, Don Bosco CREAM, Davangere), Mr. Ramanaik Y (Chair Person, CWC,
Davangere and Social Activist of DB CREAM, Davangere), Mr. Durugappa R
(Coordinator, Don Bosco CS, Davangere) and Mrs. Meenakshi Umesh (Skills for Life
Trainer). The gathering had a few programmes put up by the students and talks by the
guests. All the speakers talked about Gandhiji and his principles. Fr Cyril remembered
also Fr. Kuriakose Puthenpurayil, sdb who started DBCLM, as his birthday too fell on
the same day. The main attraction of the gathering was the exhortation to keep the
campus free of single use plastic.
Soon after the gathering the staff and students went in a procession along the road in
front of the center to the nearby junction at the RTO Office, shouting out slogans against
use of plastic and holding placards in hand. They also stood there at the junction in a
circle for a while shouting loud the slogans and displaying the placards. Once the
procession reached back it was the time for cleaning around. The staff and students
took quite a long time and cleaned in and around the center. The programme ended just
before lunch. The whole exercise was a visible sign of the commitment of the staff to
keep the campus free of single use plastic and for the students a learning experience.
