Parents Meet 2019


The Open Shelter project of Don Bosco Child Labour Mission organized a parents meet on 21st May 2019 in Don Bosco, Davangere. Fr. Cyril Sagayaraj, Director and Fr. Jose Joseph, Administrator attended the meeting. The meeting was aimed at evaluating the studies and other extra-curricular activities of the children. The meeting started with an introductory talk by the coordinator of the project, Sunil H. He talked about the responsibilities of parents in giving care and protection and their role in education and development of the children. He narrated the importance of education and what parents can do in the development of our country. He advised the parents to admit the kids to school and do a regular follow up of their education and other activities. Today’s Children are tomorrow’s future. And when we are not giving proper care and attention to these children we are indeed creating an illiterate and unemployed future.

Ms. Prathibha, Child protection Officer, DCPU, Davangere, informed the parents about child Marriage. She talked about prohibition of child marriage Act 2006 and its objectives. This act is armed with enabling provisions to prohibit child marriage, protect and provide relief to the victim and enhance punishment to those who abet, promote or solemnize such marriages.

Fr. Cyril Sagayaraj talked about child labour. Poverty is the greatest single cause behind child labour. He advised the parents to send their kids to school rather than sending them to work places. Education is a key to prevent and one of the most successful methods to reduce child workers in India.

Rahamath, a student of the Residential Bridge Course (RBC) shared her appreciation for Don Bosco. She narrated how her short stay in Don Bosco helped her in studies and in other extra-curricular activities, how the teachers motivated her in doing things and how successful she is.

The students also had a chance to appear on the stage with different cultural programmes like dance, skit, song, etc. After the programme there was a sumptuous meal for all and a good time together.
