“Child Labourer Becomes Counsellor”
From a Child Labourer to Counselor: Lakshmi. T (as narrated by her)
I belong to a very poor family. There are three members in my family. My father died when I was 12 years old. My mother is doing domestic work and looking after the family. I too was doing domestic work along with my mother. When I came here to study I didn’t know how to read and write. Then I studied one year here, afterwards they sent me to study in government hostel till 2nd PUC.

I completed studying BSW (Bachelor’s in Social Work at St. Philomena’s college in Mysore after which I completed my MSW in Kerala. Don Bosco Davangere bore all the expenses for books, college fees, hostel fees, college uniform, shoes, bag, travel expenses and stationery. It was helpful for my personal as well as professional growth and development and it enhanced my confidence level. At present I am working as a counselor in Don Bosco Child Labour Mission, Davangere. I have been supported, encouraged and guided by Fr Kuriakose and serving this institution as a staff makes me very proud.
